Hello NBA Family

Since January 1999 I have been the only African American Female Judge, ever elected or appointed to the bench in the state of Utah. Over the past 26 years, I have worked every day to bring dignity, respect and fairness to my position, while upholding the rule of law.

My commitment to service extends well beyond the boundaries of the state bar. I have a long history in the civil rights field. I am a life member of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). I was instrumental in the election of Utah’s first Black State Senator. As the Director of the Utah State Office of Black Affairs, with the help of the late Coretta Scott King and other team members we were able to gain passage of the Martin Luther King Holiday bill in the state of Utah. I am a proud member of the Divine Nine. As a Silver Star and life member, with over 45 years of uninterrupted membership, I have served Alpha Kappa Sorority, Incorporated® at the local regional and international levels. And, I am a member of The History Makers.

I have been preparing for advanced leadership in the National Bar Association (NBA), for nearly two decades. I am currently the Director of Region Ten. During my tenure we were awarded outstanding region, had two Martin Luther King Jr. Drum Major For Justice Advocacy Competition winners and our first 40 under 40 award recipient. I was the 49th Chairman of the NBA Judicial Council and have served on the NBA Nominations Committee. Additionally, I am a founding member and president for the Utah Black Lawyers Association.

My dedication to service is deeply personal. I am grounded in my faith and love of my family. As a wife, mother of two and grandmother I understand the importance of “a goodly heritage.” My commitment to justice and legacy fuels my passion to make space for those who have been left out of the room for too long.
